Just kidding. By the end of this post I hope to make the decision between your friend and Joyco a little easier for you.
I want to start by saying that your friend has his/her place in the video industry. There are plenty of jobs out there that are too small and not very practical for a production company to take on.
In our world, the technological advancements are so frequent that the world of consumer equipment and resources is expanding exponentially. Just look at smartphones. The cameras on those babies are incredible. Their quality is only getting better and when used properly can shoot good-looking footage. DSLR cameras have a similar story. They shoot full HD and are relatively inexpensive. Stories like this are leading to a rise in freelancers who will plan, shoot, and edit your video for you from start to finish. As a production company, this affects our business.
Video production is popular. User-generated content, as it is called, is popping up everywhere. Just look at YouTube. Because of this, people are familiar with varying qualities of video production. The public knows that a film is supposed to look different than a video blog or vlog.
That being said, generally your friend will not provide the same level of quality that Joyco can give you. There are multiple reasons for this:
- Joyco has a larger budget for higher quality equipment. We can afford multiple cameras, microphones, better lights, better software, a studio, professional actors, etc. Your friend, who is producing your video because he is cheaper, probably won’t have access to the same resources that we do.
- Joyco has more expertise. Your friend has to focus on every part of the process to complete your video for you and therefore is probably not an expert at all of it. Unless your friend is a Superman in the video industry, and there are some of those, then he/she won’t have time to become an expert at every step in the process. At Joyco, we have guys dedicated to editing, dedicated to shooting, etc. Our team is comprised of individuals, each with a specific expertise who can perform at the highest level in their respective departments, giving you a team that is an expert at every part of the process.
- At Joyco, we have a staff as opposed to your individual friend. This brings with it many implications. Because we have a team of people instead of one person we can bounce ideas off of each other. This creates a more productive and creative environment. We can handle bigger projects because each person does not have to do everything, but can devote themselves to their designated role. We can leverage the knowledge and expertise of each person to the client’s benefit instead of relying on one brain. At Joyco we are currently leveraging more than 130 years of collective experience. Can your friend say that?
As I said earlier, your friend certainly has his/her place in the industry, but don’t go to your friend just because he/she is cheaper than we are. You have to think about other things. Is your friend going to give you the quality you and your company need? Is your friend going to provide the best solution for your communication needs? Does your friend have the knowledge of the industry standards necessary to give you a successful video? Is your friend the kind of person you want to work with? Will he/she be respectful of your time and opinions? Will you friend be nice to you? These are all questions you need to ask yourself before you choose to save some money. You may find that your friend is the perfect fit for you and your project, but if that’s not the case, give us a call. Your success is our success.
